Optometry Prescribing Right in Ontario
Sondra Black, OD, as interviewed by Scott Krzywonos
Canada’s most populated province is Ontario: over 14 million people (and nearly 40% of the national population) live there. Yet, given the unique structure of prescribing rights in Canada, optometrists were restricted in what they could prescribe to treat dry eye disease, creating an obvious barrier for optometrists who wish to collaborate with surgeons. Sondra Black, OD, co-Chief Medical Editor of CollaborativeEYE and a Canadian optometrist, sat down with Scott Krzywonos, CE’s editor-in-chief, to explain how this came to be—and how it could change.
